I'm looking into buying a video card for my system that would hopefully take the load of watching my hd3000 off the cpu. I know the pchdtv page recommends getting an nVidia card with "hardware accelerated mpeg decoding and the XvMC interface". In reading the nvidia Linux driver readme, though, I found the following:

That seems a little disturbing to me, because the GeForce4 and GeForce FX cards I have found are all either PCI or AGP based. My mobo only has PCI and PCI-x16, so if I stick to the recommended models, I can only get rather old, basic video cards.
What about the newer PCI-x16 based cards, like the GeForce 6500 chips? If I get something like that, will it be utilized for my hdtv decoding / encoding? |
