My card works fine in NTSC mode but I have not figured out how to do the dvbscan. If I follow the directions that come with the card I get a message to the effect that no channel.config found or dtvscan not found. etc. How and where do you place the channel.config file and the dtvscan file? Thanks for the help. |

I have dvb scan but now it ends with "TUNING FRONTEND: Invalid argument". I am not able to determine what I am missing here and how to call xine. I am using Mandriva 2009 by the way. |

I should have researched this card a bit more. But since it was designed for linux I figured it would be fairly easy to set up. Wrong, no picture no sound. I can not get it to work in Mandriva except for the NTSC channels and that is without sound. The SBlive ! sound card does not have an auxillary port and so I have no idea where to plug in the tv card. Anyone want to buy a pchdtv-5500? |

Try something else besides a Mandriva/MythTV setup. I highly recommend the Mythbuntu distro, as it is as close as you can come to a pre-configured MythTV. Although I dislike the XFCE desktop, and install Gnome or KDE immediately after installing the distro.

I also would recommend compiling the latest drivers from the v4l-dvb CVS/Mercurial repository.

| I have tried Mythtv in its many forms and have never been able to get it to do anything. I think you have to be a programmer to use it. Mythbuntu was even a failure for me. |

waterhead, you seem to be the savior of these forums- advice of yours on stuff i've been working on so far has been completely invaluable.
i'm running Mythbuntu, which did great for the analog channel scan and ok for the playback, but when i scan ATSC it shows only green and black fuzz. myth's backend scan seems to be terrible, so i used dvb-util's 'scan' and exported to a channels.conf and it ran happily in xine.
so now i'd like to make it run in Myth, but I have no idea what i'm doing- mostly i'm a very persistent newb who gets lucky at trial and error often.
thanks ahead of time for your help,

I believe that you can import the channels.conf file in the Input Connections section of the mythtv-setup program.. You select the Scan Channels button, then change Scan Type to import.
I got this info from the MythTv Wiki:

These forums used to be a valuable source for help, but sadly they are almost dead now. A more active forum with loads of helpful people is the Linux HTPC section of the AVS forums.

I don't know why it won't let me post a link anymore. Maybe they are mad at me referring people to another forum.
I'll try it one more time.

Screw it! If they don't want me to help anyone, then I'll continue helping people at LinuxForums.org. At least they appreciate my help. |
